Hieronder staat een brief die door een studentenvertegenwoordiger in de Sociale Raad van de Universiteit Gent, Brecht De Smet, werd verstuurd naar het dagblad 'El Universal' en naar de Mexicaanse regering.

Deze brief kan als modelbrief dienen voor andere mensen die hun protest willen aantekenen tegen de criminalisering van het sociaal protest in Mexico. Je kan gewoon zijn naam vervangen door de jouwe. Tegen 15 september zullen we ervoor zorgen dat deze brieven ook bij de Mexicaanse ambassade in België terecht komen. Subject: Criminalization of APPO and Militante

Dear Sir/Madam,

I write this letter in protest to your political attitude with regard to the popular movement in Oaxaca and the 'Militante' organisation. On August 22, Oaxaca State Attorney Lizbeth Caña, described the Popular Assembly of the People of Oaxaca (APPO) as an "urban guerrilla".

Three days later, Raymundo Riva Palacio, in el Universal, signed an article called "Guerrillas", in which he backed the slanderous allegations about the "guerrilla" character of the APPO, accusing it of being infiltrated by the Revolutionary Army of the People(EPR).

In this column he also added the Marxist Tendency "Militante" among the allies of the EPR.

This is an obvious attempt to criminalize and smear the APPO, a genuine social movement, and Militante, although both movements have nothing in common with the violent goals and tactics of terrorism.

I strongly urge you to stop these false accusations and call off your actions against APPO and Militante.
